Legacy of Learning
Central Magnet School (2010- )
In 2010, the county school board decided to repurpose the Central Middle School building as Central Magnet School. CMS is the only combined magnet middle and high school (Grades 6-12) in Rutherford County. Admission to CMS is determined by a student’s grade point average and standardized test scores, and the school has a current enrollment of 1,235. Central Magnet ranks as one of the top schools in Tennessee, and students consistently produce ACT, SAT, and AP scores that fall above both the national and state averages.
Beyond the Classroom
In addition to opportunities to enroll in engineering programs or dual-enrollment at Middle Tennessee State University, students research and write their own thesis. Students work closely with mentors in their field of interest that allows them to expand their knowledge outside the classroom. Recent projects have included working closely with Gibson Guitars on guitar case design and with PepsiCo to redesign one of their lines.
Central Magnet School brings together a segment of students that have the skills, abilities, and desire to participate in things they won't get as much intense focus on in other schools... It's a setting that fosters an atmosphere of academic achievement.

Robotics Team
Known for its talented and intelligent students, Central Magnet School quickly made a name for itself in the field of robotics, both on the national and international level.
Robotics is only one of a variety of clubs and activities available to CMS students, however. Sports teams include basketball, track and field, volleyball, baseball, softball, and soccer, and the over seventy student clubs and organizations range from the National Honor Society to the Roller Coaster Enthusiast Club.

Student Life
Murfreesboro has undergone many changed in the past 150 years, but this site has continued to be a place of growth and learning. Despite bringing a new type of educational institution to the campus, Central Magnet has carried on many of the same activities and traditions of the previous schools that have existed here.

Women's basketball has been played here since the athletic activities requirements of TCW. The sport and uniform styles have undergone many changes since then, but the athletes have kept up the same level of dedication.
